Assam Accord Clause 6: Here is what Sushmita Dev had to say

After home minister Amit Shah, in both the houses of Parliament assured fast implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord in the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted the same.

In a series of tweets, Prime Minister Modi communicated, “I want to assure my brothers and sisters of Assam that they have nothing to worry after the passing of #CAB. I want to assure them- no one can take away your rights, unique identity and beautiful culture. It will continue to flourish and grow. The Central Government and I are totally committed to constitutionally safeguard the political, linguistic, cultural and land rights of the Assamese people as per the spirit of Clause 6.

Today, chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal also reiterated similar sentiments. While addressing the media, Sonowal said that the government will take each and every action required to ensure that Assamese remains the state-language of Assam. He added that nobody will be able to snatch the rights of Assamese people in Assam and the “Khilonjia’s” (Indigenous) land will remain safe for the indigenous people of the state.

Barak Valley has always opposed the idea of implementation of clause 6 of the Assam Accord. It summarises, “Constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards, as may be appropriate, shall be provided to protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.”

All India Mahila Congress President and former Silchar MP, Sushmita Dev shared her reaction on the current scenario. While speaking with Barak Bulletin she said, “The plan is very clear. Disenfranchise the Muslim through new NRC & disempower the Hindu Bengalis who will be second class citizens with no jobs, no land, no language after clause 6 is distorted by BJP. It’s time to vote out BJP.”
