Assam government starts emergency numbers for rescue and relief

In view of the serious flood situation in Cachar district, Assam state government has started emergency numbers for any help regarding rescue, relief or any other emergencies. The numbers shared by the government are 0361-2237219, 9401044617, 1079 (toll free) for assistance in the affected areas.

For psycho-social support to flood and landslide victims, the government has started the Manjona Helpline number 14410.

The government further informed that a total of 08 teams of NDRF personnels comprising 207 team members have been deployed across Barak Valley’s various affected districts. Additionally, a team of 120 Indian Army personnel armed with 09 boats have also been deployed in Silchar from Dimapur. Along with this, 10 CRPF personnels with 02 high speed boats and 04 boats with 04 SDRF personnel have also been air transported to Cachar district to speed up rescue operations.

In terms of supplies, the state government informed that 12 MT of GR items including mineral water, chira, biscuits, cakes were transported from Guwahati to SIlchar along with 24 MT of GR items from Jorhat. Additionally, 3.5 MT essential items including Halogen tablet and 12 water pouch rolls were also air transported from Guwahati to Cachar.

As per the flood report till date, a total of 45,34,048 population of 4536 villages in 30 districts have been affected by flood in the state in the last 24 hours. A total of 100869.76 hectares of crop area have been affected while 07 human lives have been lost in the last 24. The state has so far lost 107 human lives with 90 succumbing to floods and 17 to landslides.

The state government further informed that a total of 759 relief camps and 636 relief distribution centres have been opened in all affected areas. A total of 2,84,875 people are staying in the relief camps and the situation of incessant rains is under close watch of the authorities.
