Central Aviation Minister takes cognizance of MP Rajdeep Roy’s tweet, assures assistance in capping flight fare

Fares of flights connecting Silchar Airport became sky-high as the Sothern Assam and Barak Valley got disconnected through surface transportation with the rest of India. The fare of an air ticket in economy class between Guwahati and Silchar was showing an amount of over Rs 31,000, while the fare between Guwahati and Agartala is about Rs 2500.

Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy took cognizance of the situation. He tweeted to union minister of Civil Aviation Jytotiraditya Scindia, Office of the Prime Minister and Airport Authority of India, on May 16.

“With railways & roadways disrupted due to heavy rains and landslides, I m stunned to see #silchar- #guwahati airfare reach 31000/- for a 25 min flight for 300km ! This issue of ticket pricing needs to be addressed immediately,” Dr. Roy tweeted.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia responded to the concerns raised by MP Rajdeep Roy over Twitter and informed that the Guwahati-Silchar route is subjected to a fare cap within a 15 days window, and air agencies are not charging exorbitant amounts from the travelers, and also added that airlines operating to Silchar are adhering to the directions.

Minister Scindia also urged to bring up the specific issues to the Air Sewa portal for further assistance. “Clarifying that the Guwahati to Silchar route is subject to fare cap within 15 days of travel to ensure exorbitant fares are not charged from travelers. Have ascertained from airlines operating to Silchar that they adhere to the directions,” Jyotiraditya Scindia tweeted.
