From Chief Minister’s guest at dinner to being most wanted; Cachar Police raids Abu Mazumdar’s house in Silchar

It was the first time, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam met Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga after the July 26 firing that killed six Assam Police personnel. Minister in Assam Government, Atul Bora accompanied Chief Minister Sarma and they went to Zoramthanga’s dinner.

From Mizoram, there were a few officers, a top-level politician, a couple of bureaucrats, and Abu Mazumdar. The same Abu Mazumdar has Cachar Police raiding his multistorey apartment in Silchar’s Itkhola area. As Superintendent of Police Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur assured, Cachar Police has gone all out in its drive against the nexus that smuggles Burmese betelnuts through Silchar. The Police started the raid around 9:00 pm and is still continuing the search operation.

If sources are to be believed, Abu Mazumdar is a top-level handler and has close relationships with Mizoram Government. Why would CM Zoramthanga invite him to a closed-door dinner otherwise? Abu Mazumdar’s gang has Hazi Nizam Uddin who is already under Police custody – admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital with bullet injuries. Zakir Talukdar and Ataf Hussain, other top members of Abu’s team are also in Police’s radar. Police sources confirmed that the investigating officers have achieved major success in their process of arresting both Zakir and Altaf. Highly placed sources have informed that Abu is in the process of surrendering before the Police.

SP Cachar mentioned that the Burmese Supari syndicate is a multi-state operation. However, as Silchar gets used as a transit path, the Cachar district is always at the receiving end when it comes to the impact of this scam. While the raids are being conducted for the last few days, the question was, will the Police go after the big-shots. Well today, the officials are raiding a man’s house who was CM Zoramthanga’s special guest at a CM-level meeting.
