“People of Silchar are very happy,” Himanta Biwa Sarma after second survey in three days 

Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Silchar for the second time in 72 hours to survey the flood condition. A 14-boat convoy went to Malini Beel crossing the deluge in Chandmari Road.

Then the convoy returned to Normal School and a vehicular motorcade led him to Gopinath point. From there, he walked the submerged road up to National Highway Road in Silchar and then back. On his way he interacted with people on either sides of the road. There are many who reached out to him and shared their problems. Chief Minister assured them help.

After the survey, he attended a meeting at the office of Deputy Commissioner, Cachar. He was accompanied by MP. Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Keerthi Jalli, SP Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur.

“I have interacted with the people of Silchar randomly and I get a sense that people of Silchar are very happy,” said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma after the meeting.

He added, “Many districts of Assam has encountered floods in the past but nowhere we have had such deployments. 68 boats are in action, NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, Indian Air Force are working tirelessly to ensure that the relief is reaching the last mile.”

Some people complained that the relief items are not reaching the by-lanes. “Yes, I agree that not all lanes can’t be accessed by NDRF. In fact, some of the boats got damaged when they attempted to enter the lanes. So, the locals need to help the force to reach the lanes,” added chief minister Sarma.

He informed that there were 1200 distress calls per day three days back, but now it is 400 per day. Jayanta Mallah Baruah, PHE Minister will visit Silchar tomorrow to monitor the situation. The CM said he will visit again within a week to inspect the situation.
