“Refrain from believing any rumours,” Not switching to BJP, says Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha

The coziness between North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and the BJP is increasing day by day. One of the strongest tea tribe leaders in Congress, Rupjyoti Kurmi switched sides to join the BJP. He is a great friend of Purkayastha and has apparently asked him to join him in BJP.

Pijush Hazarika, minister in Himanta Biswa Sarma’s cabinet is also a good friend of Purkayastha and according to sources, they are in touch with each other over phone. Yesterday, Purkayastha attended the all party MLA meeting called by minister Ashok Singhal. After the meeting, he attended the press briefing too.

That added to the speculations of him switching over to the BJP. Today, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha issued a statement to put the speculations to bed, albeit, temporarily. “Refrain from believing any rumours of me joining BJP,” tweeted Purkayastha.

He added, “I have issued numerous statements regarding this earlier. Congress has bestowed me with an enormous responsibility few days back. I’m working hard on it and will leave no stone unturned in bringing glory for Congress.”

Indian National Congress recently announced the appointment of Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha as one of the working presidents of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. Rana Goswami, and Jakir Hussain Sikdar are the other working presidents with Bhupen Bora as the president.
