Silchar-Trivandrum superfast express to start running from October 8

What comes as a much-awaited announcement; Northeast Frontier Railway has proposed to resume the service of 02507/8 Silchar-Trivandrum Superfast Express with a maiden run from next Thursday, i.e. October 8, 2020.

The train will also be the first one to resume its service, originating from Barak Valley, since the countrywide lockdown that began on March 23.

The Northeast Frontier Railway earlier sent the proposal to the Railway Board for its approval and only after the green signal, it proceeded with the resumption.

According to the proposed schedule, the train will depart from Silchar every Thursday 20:05 hours, and reach Trivandrum on Monday. The reverse train will depart from Trivandrum on every Tuesday 16:55 hrs.

According to the timetable, the train will have stoppages at Badarpur, New Haflong, Maibang and Lumding stations of the hill section.

The train will run with 23 coaches with primary maintenance at Silchar and secondary maintenance at Trivandrum. According to sources, the train will have diesel traction upto Guwahati thereafter it will be lead by electric engines.

It can be mentioned here that MP Rajdeep Roy on September 8, 2020, met the Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal at his Parliament Office and requested him to start Silchar-Guwahati train service at the earliest as travelling through Meghalaya by road was hindered by the Meghalaya government by various restrictions. Minister at that time assured Roy of looking into the matter and soon take a call in this regard.

Regular passenger and suburban train services were first canceled from March 22 till March 31 in view of the pandemic and remained suspended.
