Students block Silchar – Kalain road to protest against the shift of centre while Education Minister is in town

Students of the Bikrampur Goloknath HS School have blocked the Silchar – Kalain road near Bangarpar to protest against the shifting of the examination centre. The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will conduct the final examination later this month. The students of Goloknath HS School have been allotted GC College as the examination centre.

The reason for the demonstration, according to the students is, “Sirajul Ali HS School was our examination centre. That has been changed. The examination centre has been shifted to Silchar GC College. We have submitted several memorandums appealing for a change, but the administration did not pay heed to our request and so, we had to resort to launching the demonstration.”

The students shared that GC College in Silchar is too far for the students of Goloknath HS School and so, they will have to face numerous problems if they are forced to take the test at GC College. “We will continue with our protest. The DC, SP, MP need to solve our problem and assign us a centre at a nearby location. If that is not done, we will boycott the examination,” said a protesting member.

It is worth mentioning here, the Cabinet Minister of Assam for Education and Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes is going to visit Barak Valley on a two-day tour with various programmes. Dr Ranoj Pegu, in the the first hour of March 7, will reach Barsangan Grant of Cachar to visit Prime Minister Adarsh Gram Yojana Model SC Village.

Later, he will leave for Badarpur at 11 am to attend the inauguration programme of a new academic block or KNB Women’s College, there. After Badarpur, the Minister will leave for Latu and reach there at 1 in the afternoon. He will attend the Platinum Jubilee Programme of Latu Model Higher Secondary School. Later, at Nayabazar, he will inaugurate the Community Hall of Nayabazar High School at 2:30 PM.

If the blockade is not withdrawn, it will come in the way of the minister’s motorcade.
