The Shillong bypass road closed after massive landslide after heavy rainfall

The Shillong bypass road was closed for vehicular movement on Sunday after a massive landslide occurred above the road at Thangshalai in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district.

The road happens to be lifeline for Northeastern states as it caters communication for Southern Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur states.

According to the reports, landslide occurred on Saturday night due to the collapse of big stones from a stone quarry near the bypass road.

The local district administration and the NHAI have pressed all its resources for clearing the road as early as possible.

Passengers willing to go from Barak Valley to Guwahati will need to traverse via Shillong town until the bypass is declared open.

It can be mentioned here that Meghalaya is receiving incessant rainfall from past week as result many rivers are at spate.

According to the reports, nearly 10,000 people of four districts of Meghalaya have been affected in flash flood and landslide incidents.
