Village in Cachar’s Kalain living in darkness despite paying full electricity bill, launch protest

During the ongoing electricity crisis in Barak Valley, a bizarre phenomenon has come to light at a village located in Kalain’s North Natanpur. Despite having electricity, the lights and fans don’t work in the village. The villagers are unable to charge their mobile phones also despite paying their bills on time every month.

Due to low voltage problem, the people of Natanpur are suffering since the last two years. They are forced to live in darkness despite availability of electricity and have to pay for it every month. The meters of the village don’t show any reading hence the APDCL employees charge 1,000-2,000 rupees from them every month based on their own estimates.

The matter has been informed time and again to the APDCL and District Administration by the villagers since 2020 but no action has been taken till today. The villagers have threatened to file FIR against APDCL officials and also cut off the electricity connection as well as approach the consumer court if the issue of low voltage is not resolved within the next five days.
