DSA cancels 2022-23 football season, as Super Division Clubs refuse to play twice a year

Due to the ‘locking down’ Covid -19 , DSA silchar could not organise the 2021-22 Football season. So this year during April- May, the Super Division Football tournament was organised by DSA after which the Association organised the First, Second and Third Division Football tournament consecutively. Besides, some other tournaments were also organised. However, DSA refused to organise the 2022-23 Football season this year. The clear reason is that the Super Division Clubs refused to play twice a year. And so, the entire League has been cancelled.

To be precise, the Super Division has strong Associations with the First Division because the First Division Champions get the opportunity to play the Super Division. This way, the lowest team in Super Division gets degraded to the First Division. As a result, if the Super Division doesn’t organise the League, the Association cannot organise any other League. So, the Super Division Clubs have refused to play in the 2022-23 League.

The Association had decided that for the 2022-23 Football League, it’ll organise an inter team exchange in September. Exactly after that, the Super Division Football Tournament would be organised. A meeting was also organised with the Super Division Clubs. A letter was sent to each club of the Super Division, which mentioned that if the club doesn’t wish to play, then it has to inform the Association via a letter, failing which it’ll be considered that the Club will play the League. As a response, among the Super Division Clubs, 4 out of the 6 Clubs refused to play. The Silchar Sporting Club did not respond. Only the Tarun Sangha express their consent to play.

After getting the responses from the Clubs, the Association called for a Governing Body. The only discussed topic was the 2022-23 Football season. In that meeting, the denied Clubs inform that they won’t play two leagues year for there’s a financial consideration to this decision as well. Because those Clubs that have both Cricket and Football teams as well, it becomes tough for them. Most importantly, Tarun Sangha also informed at the meeting that they won’t play.

The Association has its Inter Club member exchange during September- October. So it becomes tough for the Club considering the Payment of team members. So they decide to step back. And not just the teams, it would also become difficult for the Sponsors to add in consecutive tournaments.

DSA President Bijendra Prasad Singh informs : “For the 2022-23 inter district Tournaments, the team building criteria will be the performances in the 2021-22 League.”
