3 airlifted today; Death toll rises to 6 as Shyamaprasad Dusat declared dead, CM salutes martyr, assures compensation

Indian Air Force’s air ambulances had a busy day in the sky over the Northeast. The Mizo onslaught yesterday left several Assam Police officials seriously injured. One of them being the superintendent of Police, Cachar, Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar. A bullet pierced through his femur bone leaving it fractured. He has been airlifted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. A special air ambulance of the Indian Air Force lifted him for the business capital of the country.

Another similar ambulance took off from the Silchar Airport with Gopeshwar Singh and Ashit Kanti Dey. Both have been transferred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for better treatment on chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s instructions. Singh has a head injury and will need plastic surgery as his fingers got deformed. Ashit Kanti Dey had a complex femur fracture and so the doctors in SMCH decided against taking any risk. “The nerves are involved and so, it is recommended to operate in presence of a neurosurgeon which is not available in SMCH,” informed a senior treating doctor.

Nogen Mech too has a complex femur fracture and is supposed to be airlifted. “An air ambulance cannot carry more than two patients and so, we are waiting for it to make another trip. If it can fly today, he will be transferred to GMCH or we will wait and transfer him tomorrow,” added a senior doctor.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to six security personnel as at around 9:00 pm, Shyamaprasad Dusat of 6th AP Battalion has been declared dead by doctors at SMCH. He had incurred bullet injuries in his abdomen. The chief minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who visited Cachar today, tweeted, “I am sad to inform that Shyamprasad Dusat of 6th AP Bn has succumbed to his abdominal bullet injury at SMCH. He couldn’t be operated or moved to Guwahati because of his worsening condition.”

In a conversation with Barak Bulletin, the chief minister confirmed that Dusat’s family too will get a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and his kin will get a government job. Dusat’s son studies in Class XII and the family was shattered to learn about the death of brave security personnel. “I salute the brave martyr and bow in reverence. My heartfelt condolences to the family,” the chief minister added.
