50-year-old man dies in Silchar Medical College; 12 positive in Cachar, 1 in Hailakandi, Karimganj 13

India reported more than 2 lakh cases again to become the country with the most number of daily cases. Today, a 50-year-old Karimganj resident identified as Shyamlal Goala has breathed his last at the COVID ICU of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The National Health Mission – Assam has recorded it as a COVID death in its bulletin.

The Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Babul Bezbaruah briefed, “Shyamlal Goala 50 yr aged male was admitted on April 8, 2021, with RT-PCR positive status and was admitted in COVID ICU. The patient was diagnosed to be suffering from severe COVID pneumonia with septicemia. The patient expired today (16/4/21) at 7.55 am.”

It is worth mentioning here that, Sepsis occurs when chemicals released in the bloodstream to fight an infection trigger inflammation throughout the body. This can cause a cascade of changes that damage multiple organ systems, leading them to fail, sometimes even resulting in death.

Meanwhile, Cachar District Health Department informed that till 6:00 pm on April 16, 12 people tested positive for COVID19. 9 of them on the Rapid Antigen Test kit and three on RT-PCR. 748 samples were tested on RAT. There are 149 active cases in the district.

In Hailakandi one person has tested positive for the virus and the district currently has six active cases.

In Karimganj district, 3177 samples were tested and 13 individuals have tested positive.

As per the Department of Health’s report, Assam registered 573 positive cases on April 16 and four deaths, including one Karimganj resident.
