Arjuna Awardee and Padma Shri Chuni Goswami is no more

Former footballer and cricketer Chuni Goswami passed away on Thursday. He reportedly suffered from a cardiac arrest. He was 82.

Subimal Goswami renowned as Chuni Goswami was a former Indian international footballer and first-class cricketer. Born in Kishoreganj District (now in Bangladesh) he played at the striker position and has represented Indian in more than 50 international matches. Goswami also played for the popular Mohun Bagan club. As a first-class cricketer, he played Ranji Trophy for Bengal and went on to lead the team. He led India to Gold in the 1962 Asian Games.

Sports Journalist Gautam Bhattacharya tweeted, “#ChuniGoswami And now yet another blow! Just got a call from his son that the legendary Chuni Goswami has passed away just now following a cardiac arrest !Cruelest april”

Chuni Goswami is an Arjuna Award and Padma Shri recipient
