Assam Police To Be Conferred With President's Colour Award; DGP announces 2-week state-wide programme to celebrate

Assam Police will be conferred with the President’s Colour award this year. Home Minister Amit Shah will hand over the Award to Assam Police at an event to be held in Guwahati on May 10. Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tweeted about the award and mentioned that Assam Police is the 10th police force to have conferred with the prestigious award.

“Assam Police has become only the 10th State Police force in the country to receive the prestigious PRESIDENT’S COLOUR. This is a true testament to Assam police’s commitment towards performance, professionalism, integrity & above all service to humanity,” tweeted ecstatic, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, DGP, Assam Police.

“To celebrate this momentous occasion, we are kicking off a two week state wide celebratory program from tomorrow onwards. Looking forward to your active participation in this program. We will be posting here regularly, so please watch this space…” he added.

President’s Colour is awarded to a military or paramilitary unit, in recognition of exceptional service rendered to the nation, both in peacetime and during the conflict, crisis or war. The award is also known as ‘Nishaan’, an emblem that will be worn by all unit officers on the left-hand sleeve of their uniform.

Assam DGP, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta while interacting with media persons, said, “We want to have a very unique and colourful parade as the award itself is very prestigious. Union Home minister Amit Shah will present the award to the police. Our state will be the 9th state to receive the award.”

“We are also designing a unique flag for the day. The flag will be designed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati with 36 stars embedded on it,” DGP Mahanta added. Four Satradhikars of Assam will be present at the event to shower blessings on the officials of the department.

Motorcycle rallies will also be held all across Assam to make the people of the state aware of the prestigious President’s ‘Colour’ award.

Assam police have been proactive against the drug and illegal narcotics, animal trafficking accross the state, they have been taking stringent measures against the antisocial elements of the state to curb the petty crimes on the street. On many occasions Assam Police was indulged into controversies regarding their alleged approach of encounter, neutralizing antisocial elements at the spot or extra judicial killings, very recently Assam Police booked and detained MLA of Gujrat Jignesh Mevani in relation to a tweet criticising PM Modi.
