Barak Valley teacher accused of harassment says, "I am being framed"

Yet another sexual harassment allegation against a teacher in Barak Valley has surfaced. Pathini ME School’s head-teacher Suresh Sharma is the latest edition to the list which includes a few names from Assam University Silchar too. Located in Karimganj District’s Patherkandi area, this school was established in 1959.

A few guardians got together and lodged a complaint at Bazaricherra Police station. In their complaint, the guardians mentioned that Sharma would harrass the girls studying in the class. “He used to make obscene and uncomfortable gestures and even physically harrassed the students,” the guardians mentioned in their complaint.

Guardians gathered at the school today and allegedly started manhandling the teacher. That is when the Bazaricherra Police reached the spot and took the teacher to the Police station.

While speaking with our correspondent, Sharma said that “He is being framed”. He said that he had beaten the students in order to punish them for their wrongdoings but never harassed or misbehaved with anyone. “I am sure there won’t be any evidence against me,” he said.

The officer in charge of the Bazaricheera said that they are investigating the matter, “We have received the complaint, the guardians said that he has been harassing girls for a while now and they had complaint to the school too. They said after no action was taken against Sharma they had no other option but to lodge a police complaint,” said the officer.

Fuming locals demanded strict action against the alleged teacher whereas the fraternity, on the other hand, requested for a detailed investigation.
