Barak Valley's daughter, an ACS officer Bemthoi Ahongbam Chanu is no more

ACS topper, Cachar’s Bemthoi Ahongbam Chanu is no more. She passed away on Tuesday. Assistant Commissioner Cum Executive Magistrate, Bokajan-Karbi Anglong since December 2016, Bemthoi Ahongbam Chanu is a daughter of Phulertal area in Lakhipur, Cachar.

Yesterday, she complained of immense pain in her lower abdomen and was rushed to the hospital in Karbi Anglong. The doctors there pronounced her dead. A highly active civil servant, Chanu is a favourite among locals in Karbi Anglong. Back at her home town in Phluertal, kids follow her as a role model. She had a dream to inspire kids in that zone to join Civil Services and had plenty of admirers.

The untimely death of the civil servant who had secured 59th rank in Assam Public Service Commission’s Combined Competitive Examination in 2015-16 to become an ACS officer has come as a shock for Barak Valley. MLA of Lakhipur,  Rajdeep Goala has expressed his condolences to the family.

 

Bemthoi Ahongbam Chanu did her schooling at Ashapalli English Medium School in Phulertal. Then she enrolled herself at Nehru College for plus two and completed her graduation from the same college. To do her masters, she went to Guwahati University and after post-graduation, started preparing for the Civil Services.

A blend of silk and steel, Chanu has more than 11,000 followers on her page she describes as “It is dedicated to inspire civil services aspirants by sharing my experiences, my vision…” Today she leaves behind her inspiring experiences and many ignited minds who want to be like her.
