BSF Jawan from UP kills himself with his service rifle in Karimganj

When the whole country is celebrating the 75th Independence Day, jawans of the 134 BN Border Security Force, BOP Karkhana Putni are mourning the death of their colleague. The camp located in Karimganj’s Bazaricherra area has lost a 42-year-old Jawan identified as Manbir Singh.

According to available information, his colleagues heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed to check on him when they saw Singh was lying dead. “We were informed about the death of a jawan in the wee hours and that is when a team from Bazaricherra Police Station rushed to the spot. OC of Patherkandi Police station also visited the spot,” informed Manoranjan Singha, OC, Bazaricherra Police Station.

Singh hails from Uttar Pradesh and was on duty at India – Bangladesh border. Sources in the BSF’s 134 Battalion informed that he pulled the trigger while pointing the gun at his right eye leaving that side of the skull fractured. “Our preliminary suspicion is that he has committed suicide. However, the matter is under investigation,” OC of Bazaricherra added.

The body of the jawan has been sent to Karimganj Civil Hospital for postmortem. The commanding officer of the battalion is also investigating the matter to determine the circumstances under which Manbir Singh decided to kill himself.

BSF spokesperson informed that after postmortem, the body will be escorted to BSF’s Silchar Headquarters in Masimpur for a formal tribute. From there, the dead body will be airlifted in a special BSF helicopter for Uttar Pradesh. The last rites will be performed at Manbir Singh’s hometown.
