Cachar District Admin Prepares for Peaceful Durga Puja with Key Safety Measures, Dry Days on Visarjan
In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, the Cachar District Administration held a crucial meeting with Puja committee officials to ensure peaceful and smooth celebrations. The meeting, held on Tuesday, was presided over by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav and attended by senior officials, including Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, District Development Commissioner Norsing Bey, Additional District Commissioners Antara Sen and V.L.L. Nampui, and other key department heads.
The administration emphasized the importance of following proper procedures for securing permissions for utilities like electricity and water. A control room will be established by the district administration to monitor festival activities, ensuring seamless coordination. A separate meeting will be convened with Puja committees to streamline traffic management and prevent congestion during the festivities.
The APDCL department highlighted concerns regarding the power supply, stating that current levels are insufficient for the increased demand during the festival. Alternative arrangements are being made. Additionally, the PWD roads department assured that all necessary road repairs will be completed before the Puja celebrations.
SP Numal Mahatta stressed the importance of issuing ID cards for volunteers, implementing separate entry points for men and women at pandals, and ensuring fire safety measures and CCTV surveillance are in place. He also urged committees to avoid collecting donations on highways and to ensure pandal construction does not damage public roads. All necessary permissions must be obtained to avoid any issues.
Various concerns were raised by Puja committees, which DC Yadav addressed, assuring that the administration would take all necessary steps to resolve them. He also announced that immersion days will be designated as “dry days,” ensuring a more orderly conclusion to the festival. Yadav further directed all officials and employees to remain in their stations during the festival to ensure uninterrupted celebrations.
The meeting set the tone for a well-coordinated, safe, and joyous Durga Puja in Cachar this year, with all departments working together to ensure public convenience and safety.
