Cachar with 668, Karimganj with 152 sets new records of daily spike in COVID cases

The Cachar Health department informed that 668 samples have tested positive for COVID 19 on Monday setting a new all-time high record number of cases in one day. 209 of those samples have tested positive on RT-PCR while 459  were found positive on RAT. The previous single-day highest spike was 630 in the district.

Taking these 668 individuals into account, since April 1, 2021, 7253 individuals have tested positive. According to the Cachar district health department’s insights, 53 individuals have died since April 1. Currently, there are 2073 individuals in Home Isolation while the total active cases in the district stand at 2569.

In Karimganj district, 3,385 swab samples were collected and out of them, 152 happened to be positive. For Karimganj too, this is the highest one-day spike ever. 144 positive samples tested positive on RAT and 8 on RT-PCR in Karimganj. The total number of active cases stand at 757 in Karimganj.

Hailakandi district reported 85 cases on Monday taking the number of active cases to 743.

In Silchar Medical College and Hospital, till 5:00 pm, 284 patients were undergoing treatment while 92 patients are in the ICU. 25 patients are under ventilators and 152 patients are on Oxygen support. On Monday, 57 patients took admission to the hospital and 36 were discharged.

Six individuals have been declared dead in the last 24 hours ending at 5:00 pm, May 24. 53-year-old Abdul Matlib, a resident of Badarpur, Karimganj took admission on May 22 and was declared dead on May 23 at 11:40 pm. 70-year-old Amalendu Deb was the first patient to be declared dead on May 24. He succumbed at 4:10 am. The Hailakandi resident was admitted to the hospital on May 23.

Silchar’s Shyamananda Lane resident, 63-year-old Samarendra Chandra Paul had taken admission on May 24 and was declared dead on the same day at 6:20 am. Surajit Bhumij, a 40-year-old resident of Kalidabor in Cachar was admitted to the hospital May 21 and was declared dead on May 24 at 7:50 am. 47-year-old Shukia Koiri from Tilanagar in Cachar was declared dead pm May 24 at 8:50 am. She was admitted to the hospital on May 23. Santosh Namashudra, 55-year-old resident of Bata Nagar Karimganj and was declared dead on May 24, he was admitted to the hospital on the same day
