Child Goes Missing in Cachar's Sonai River, SDRF Search Underway

A six-year-old boy went missing while bathing with his father in the Sonai River in Cachar district’s Nagdirgram area on Thursday. The incident has sparked panic and concern among the local residents.

According to reports, Khairul Haque Sheikh, a local resident, had gone to the river with his two children to take a bath. During the bath, his 6 year old son, Simran Hussain Sheikh, went missing. Despite frantic searches by the father and others present, the boy could not be located.

A local resident revealed that after finishing their bath, the father, assuming that Simran is following him, left the river carrying his other child. However, on reaching home, he realised that Simran was not with them. He immediately rushed back to the riverbank with other locals to search for his missing child.

It is suspected that Simran, might have had mud on his feet, and have gone back to the river to wash it off without informing his father. Khairul, carrying his other child, thought Simran was walking behind him and did not notice his absence until it was too late.

The police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were informed of the incident and have launched a search operation in the river. As of now, there is no trace of the boy, and the authorities are continuing their efforts to locate him.

Local residents have also joined the search operation, scouring the riverbank and nearby areas. The incident has left the community in shock, with many expressing their concern for the safety of children in such areas.

The SDRF team, equipped with boats and divers, is conducting an extensive search operation. However, no positive outcome have been noticed as of now. The search for Simran Hussain Sheikh is still ongoing, and the community is hoping for his safe return.
