Congress-BJP teams up to help flood affected in Karimganj

Saturday morning at around 10 o’clock water of Kushiyara river overflowing in to the City of Karimganj. The current in the river so strong that 8 decimated the temporary embarkment created to restrict the water from entering the city. Within minutes houses where flooded and the river water entered the town. Town Road Kalibari, courtroom shops in the vicinity and residential houses were all under water. People living in those houses had to vacate them within minutes, most of them left their bag and baggages behind, it caused a lot of panic and chaos in Karimganj.

The plight of people united the political fraternity, top leadership of both Congress and BJP formed a team and volunteered in the relief proceedings. MLA of North Karimganj constituency Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, BJP District President Subrata Bhattacharjee vice president Rabindra Deb cooperative chairman Subrata Deb decided to keep political differences behind them and started working for the affected people. ADC of Karimganj Dhrubajyoti Deb and CRPF officials were also present with the political fraternity.

All the dignitaries devoted themselves to temporarily fix the damaged embarkment with sacks of sand. It was an adequate response to the need of the hour. After initial efforts from the senior officials, personals from water resources department took over and in fact, after organised efforts they managed to stop the water from flowing in the City of Karimganj.

Now the water level, like Barak is also deciding Kushiyara and that is the best news for the people living in Karimganj district, simply because the river was taking very destructive shape.

The locals used the occasion to complain about constant and irregular earthmoving from the bank of the river. However it’s worth mentioning the locals very happy to see political parties mitigating differences to help the affected citizen. It’s Indeed a rare sight in India’s politics.
