Due to the ongoing heatwave in the district, the newly appointed District Commissioner of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued a set of guidelines for all private, state, and central government schools. These new measures aim to protect students from the harmful effects of extreme heat and are to be followed strictly until further notice. Schools will start from 7.30 AM tomorrow and the guidelines include relaxed dressing, cooling facilities and hydration.

As per the order, all schools functioning under the Cachar district must adhere to the following:

1. Revised School Timings: Schools are to begin at 7:30 AM and conclude by 12:30 PM to avoid the peak heat of the day.

2. Indoor Assemblies: Morning assemblies must be conducted indoors, preferably within classrooms, to limit students’ exposure to the heat.
3. Hydration Facilities: Schools are required to ensure that students have access to sufficient drinking water. Proper hydration should be encouraged throughout the school day.
4. Relaxed Dress Code: Students can be advised to forgo waistcoats and ties to promote comfort during high temperatures.
5. Ventilation and Cooling: All schools must ensure that classrooms are well-ventilated and fans are in working order. In the event of power outages, alternative power backups should be available.

These guidelines will take effect starting September 21, 2024, and will remain active until further directives from the administration. The district authorities have stressed the importance of these measures to safeguard students’ health during this period of intense heat.
