Dilip Paul versus BJP is turning into a 'Mahabharat'! Paul files FIR, calls Nityabhusan Dey 'Shakuni'

The election campaigning in Silchar is taking a cheap turn. Yesterday, BJP’s organising secretary – Barak Valley, Nityabhusan Dey, Cachar president – Bimalendu Roy, and former ward commissioner Abhrajit Chakraborty had called for a press conference at the party’s office in Itkhola. They briefed the press about a court case that Paul has allegedly concealed.

According to the BJP trio, Dilip Paul has a food-adulteration case that he has not disclosed before the Election Commission through an affidavit. They have also alleged that Paul runs a syndicate through his younger brother, Niloy Paul. They alleged that Dilip Paul has conspired to handover contracts of CC blocks to his younger brother.

Today, independent candidate and incumbent MLA, Dilip Kumar Paul called for a press conference at his election office. Paul was accompanied by his lawyers. He responded to each and every allegation with substantiating documents. “This BJP is what I recognise as the corporate BJP,” said Dilip Paul at the beginning of the press meet.

“They have lost their mind as they can see defeat in front of their eyes. That is why they are talking nonsense. At the same time, they have also tried to mislead the voters by communicating lies through the press. The food adulteration case that they referred to which I read in the newspaper was dismissed in 2006 under the directive of the Gauhati High Court. The case number they gave is false, the correct case number is 3373/99 dismissed in 2006,” countered Dilip Paul.

Dilip Kumar Paul also informed that he has filed an FIR against all three BJP office bearers, who according to him, intentionally tried to defame him.

In his FIR, he wrote, “I beg to submit that I am contesting as an Independent Candidate to the elections of LA-9 Silchar Assembly Constituency. I am still the MLA of Silchar Assembly Constituency. The accused persons named above are the office bearers of Bharatiya Janata Party, Cachar District Committee and working for my rival BJP candidate Sri Dipayan Chakraborty.”

He added, “On 27-03-2021, the above named accused persons held a Press Conference and have made false, abusive allegations against me which have been circulated in Dainik Juagashankha, Bartalipi and also circulated in the electric media in order to influence the result of the election. The accused persons in their statement in the Press Conference have given false case number and false date of disposal of the case. No such case as mentioned by the accused persons was ever filed against me.”

“One case was filed against me in the year 1999 and I was given Honourable acquittal in the said case the year 2006, But the accused persons knowing fully that the case was dismissed in the year 2006. But even thereafter, have made the false statement in order to influence the result of the ensuing election to be held on 01-04-2021. Apart from the above, the accused persons have used obscene language against me in order to defame the character, reputation of myself, my family,” the statement adds.

Silchar Sadar Police Station has lodged an FIR under the section, 120 (B)/ 294/501/171F.

Paul questioned the integrity of Nityabhushan Dey. “He is a big leader today in BJP but he needs to speak up and reveal what he did when he was denied the ticket in 1996,” said Paul. Turning pages of history, Paul said, Nityabhusan Dey wanted to contest from Borkhola but he was not given the ticket. “That is when he conspired and formed something called Cachar BJP. He was about to file his nomination and started blackmailing Kabindra Purkayastha. He should first come and tell the people of Barak Valley, how much money he took in order to not contest from that so-called, Cachar BJP,” said Paul.
He went on to say that Nityabhusan Dey has always been a ‘Shakuni’, “He used to plot controversies and create differences between late Bimolangshu Roy and Kabindra Purkayastha,” he shared.

He even took a jibe at Abhrajit Chakraborty also known as Jhalak. “This ward commissioner is talking about me. He should go and talk about the land that he and his father trespassed. A widow is now running from post to pillar in order to get her land back. He should talk about the Gandhibag that was handed over to a private party for no money. They don’t have answers to these questions and they are spreading lies against me and targetting my brother,” said Paul.

Barak Bulletin reached out to former union minister, Kabindra Purkayastha and asked if Nityabashan Dey actually formed a Cachar BJP to rebel against the party’s decision. “Yes, he did form a party and was against the party’s decision to not give him the ticket. However, we discussed the matter and later it got sorted,” asserted Purkayastha.

When asked if Nityabhusan Dey took money by blackmailing him, Purkayastha said, “See, after we discussed the matter, I reimbursed their expenses. So, whatever they had spent to form Cachar BJP was paid by me as they agreed to submerge it.’

With just a couple of days to go before Silchar goes for polls, this allegation and the counter allegation has turned into a ‘Mahabharat’.
