Dr. Orina Raha tests COVID negative; will be discharged on July 9  

GDMO at Silchar Medical College’s Forensic Medicine department and an ENT specialist, doctor Orina Raha had tested COVID positive on July 1, 2020. After that her driver, her family members, her house help also found infected. Green Heals Hospital, Nightingale Hospital and a couple of other health care centres were asked to remain shut for at least 72 hours after the administration learnt that doctor Raha attended patient in those.

Principal cum chief superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Babul Bezbaruah informed that doctor Raha has tested negative in her first COVID test after being detected positive on July 1. However, she won’t be discharged immediately, informed Bezbaruah.

“She has now been shifted to the non-infected zone in Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s COVID block. We will keep her under observation till July 9, 2020, and then we will discharge her,” informed Bezbaruah.

Bezbaruah informed that six patients were discharged today after they got cured while 19 took admission to the COVID block yesterday. Bezbaruah appealed to the people of the district to have some patience, “There are many formalities and it takes around 20 minutes to complete them and allot a bed. It is natural that the patients get irritated especially on days when there are so many patients, but I request everyone to handle the situation with patience,” said Bezbaruah.

Meanwhile, all the staffers of Nightingale Hospital also tested COVID negative. It is worth mentioning here that the staffers were tested after Dr. Orina Raha’s detection as Raha attended patients in that hospital.
