Dr. Rajdeep Roy inoculates vaccine dose to minor Arijit Barbhuiya; Vaccination for 15-18 kickstarts in Cachar

Coronavirus cases are leapfrogging across the country. A new variant in the form of Omicron has emerged as a cause of concern. In such a scenario, the respective state governments as well as the Central government are imposing several new norms and tweaking the vaccination process.

WHO has made it clear that the vaccination drives must be intensified in order to combat the situation.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi announced on December 25 that the population between 15 and 18-year-old will be eligible to get the jab. As per his announcement, vaccination drives for minors started today across the country.

In Cachar district, the drive was kickstarted by Silchar MP, Dr. Rajdeep Roy at Narsing School Silchar. The MP emphasised on the importance of vaccination and urged the parents to actively participate in the drive by encouraging their children to volunteer in the free vaccination for the population between 15 to 18-year-old.

Silchar MLA, Dipayan Chakraborty also echoed the MP and lauded the efforts of Frontline workers including the members of the press as they had to expose themselves to the virus while performing their respective duties. He also appreciated the efforts of District Health Department.

Arijit Barbhuiya became the first minor in Cachar to get the jab. The first dose to Barbhuiya was inoculated by Silchar MP, Dr. Rajdeep Roy himself. Along with Barbhuiya, Dr. Roy inoculated doses to nine other children and declared the drive open. Pradipta Senapati, Akash Kirtaniya, Rahul Das, Raja Nunia, Antara Deb, Nilanjana Das, Purbali Shome, Bishal Nath, Debolina Bhattacharjee were inoculated by the MP himself as informed by Principal of Narsing School, Ratan Paul.

District Media Expert, NHM Cachar, Suman Choudhury informed that the drive will start at Government Boys School, DNNK School and Narsing School in Silchar town. “In the rural areas, there are 12 schools where the vaccination has already started. Overall, vaccination drives will be conducted in 168 government schools in the district,” informed Choudhury.

According to the department’s estimates, 1,13,000 individuals between 15-18-year-old age group and around 56,000 of them are estimated to sit for various examinations in the coming season.

“Grateful to Adarniya PM Sri Narendra Modi for the next phase of India’s vaccination drive for children aged 15-18. Glad to have launched Assam’s #Covid vaccination drive at Oil India HS School, Duliajan today. I urge all to take their vaccines,” Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted today to declare the drive open across the state.
