Drugs Inside Tyre Of Vehicles: Cachar Police Nabs Heroin Worth 9.5 cr; Smuggling Involving Mizoram and Manipur

The Cachar Police has conducted two separate operations to recover a whopping stash of 1.8 kilos of suspected heroin worth rupees 9.5 crores. In this operation, the police team has busted new modes of operation being used to bypass the intelligence of the police. Two peddlers were arrested in this connection and two vehicles used for the transport were also seized. The huge consignment of drugs was being transported in the guise of soaps being hidden inside a secret compartment of an SUV.

Based on credible intelligence available to Cachar Police, the two operations were led by Lakhipur SDPO and a team from the Dholai Police Station. In the operation at Dholai, a Bolero SUV with registration number AS24D4620 was apprehended and upon searching the vehicle, 74 soap boxes were found inside the fuel tank. The car heading from Champhai district of Mizoram was being driven by Rajibul Islam, who was arrested for transporting narcotic substances.

In a separate operation held at Lakipur, a motorcycle with registration number AS11X8210 was apprehended, in which Samim Hussain Laskar was transporting 55 soap boxes filled with suspected heroin. The boxes were concealed inside the bike’s tube but the team led by Lakhipur SDPO was able to recover the cases. This bike carrying the soap cases was peddling drugs which are being traced back to the neighbouring state Manipur.

Subrata Sen, the Additional Superintendent of Police on Sunday in a press briefing said, “Our War on Drugs operation is continued and we have held two special operations based on credible intel. In both cases, we were successful in preventing the drugs from being transported and reaching the wrong hands. From our initial investigation, we can say that the drugs were being smuggled from our neighbouring states and their MO (Modus Operandi) looks similar”. On the amount of drugs, the senior police personnel revealed each soap box on average can hold 14 grams of suspected heroin. The Cachar Police apprehended the two peddlers in possession of the drugs and arrested them based on the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, of 1985.
