Engine of Silchar - Agartala train clashes with auto-van; 1 killed

In a tragic accident, train engine of the 05664 (Silchar-Agartala Express special) dashed with an autovan bearing registration number AS 10 TC 3319 at km 13/4-5 in an unauthorized track-crossing while entering the Nilambazar station at 11:30 hrs today.

No train passenger was injured in the incident while the driver of the auto van lost his life. The deceased has been identified as Kalil and was resident of Panighat GP’s Sikarpur village in Karimganj district.

It may be mentioned here that the said unauthorized track-crossing in that area was closed for road vehicle movement by the railway authority in consultation with the State Govt. authorities by erecting posts for the safety of common people. But the blockades were uprooted by some miscreants for trespassing which resulted in today’s unfortunate incident.

Railway authority has lodged an FIR in the incident against the owner of the autovan for trespassing of railway tracks which is a punishable offence under section 147 (i) of Indian Railways Act. As a result of the incident the train was also detained for about 30 mts.

Chief Public Relation officer of NF Railway, Subhanan Chanda, while speaking to Barak Bulletin has appealed to the citizens not to take risk of life and cross railway tracks at unauthorized points. “In this incident, railway didn’t suffer any loss but the auto driver got killed. We would like to appeal to everyone to avoid trespassing of railway track for their safety. It is very dangerous and might lead to not only death of road users but also can cause train accidents” CPRO said.
