FIR lodged against two for allegedly trying to sell stray dog in Silchar

An FIR has been lodged with Silchar Sadar Police Station against two persons for allegedly trying to sell a stray dog in Silchar.

The persons Lalmounpui Thiek (35) and Grace Mgurte (28) hail from Fulertal under Lakhipur constituency in Cachar district.

According to the FIR, Thiek and Mgurte were found with a dog kept inside a bag near a roadside market at Jail Road (opposite Oriental High School) on Saturday afternoon. The mouth and legs of the canine were tied up with a rope, the FIR said.

Suspicious by the duo’s body language, some local youths approached them and asked to open the bag to which the duo refused to so and even allegedly engaged in a verbal-spat with them.

This enhanced the suspicion of the youths, who later took them to Silchar Sadar Police Station and lodged the complaint.

One of the eye-witnesses, who wished anonymity, alleged that the persons often used to sell dog meat to people on the pretext of selling other edible meat.

About the incident, the eye-witness said there were three persons of which one of them fled away.

The news of the incident has been making the rounds on social media with people in large numbers posting pictures and videos of the entire episode.
