Following heavy rainfall, landslip on railway tracks in Badarpur Lumding hill section

Indian Meteorological Department has issued red warning for Assam and Meghalaya, which will receive heavy to heavy rainfall during the next 5 days.

Reports are coming in that landslip has occurred over the railway tracks in few locations of Badarpur Lumding hill section yesterday late night, following heavy rainfall in the area. Railwaymen swung into action and trying to clear the blocked section as early as possible.

According to sources, landslip has occurred near about MUPA station in the hill section. Several Shramik special trains (bound towards Jiribam and Agartala) which are plying in the section, has been controlled at nearby major stations like Guwahati and Lumding.

“Yes, there have been landslide at 4 to 5 locations in Lumding – Badarpur section due to continuous rains from last few days. We are working to restore the traffic as soon as possible” NFR PRO Subhnan Chanda said when contacted.

It can also be mentioned here that incessant rainfall is underway at parts of Barak Valley from yesterday. IMD has issued Orange colour warning for three districts of Barak Valley, i.e. Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj.
