Gana Sur to stage Arijit Aditya -Subrata Roy duo’s Noorie on June 8

August 15, 2004, few school children and their parents gathered at the Dhemaji College Ground to celebrate the 68th Independence Day of India. 8:45 AM as the parade was just about to start, a massive explosion took place at the gate of the ground. 10 schoolgoers and eight others lost their lives; more than 40 got injured. The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) claimed the responsibility of the inhuman act. That incident in Dhemaji, a district in Assam is the starting point of author and editor of daily broadsheet Dainik Jugasankha Arijit Aditya’s new full-length drama, ‘Noorie’.

While the play starts in Dhemaji and Bramhaputra Valley, it shuttles to Barak Valley too. Directed by Subrata Roy, ‘Noorie’ revolves around the blast. ‘Noorie’ is a small girl who is yet to step into her teens, and is the central figure of the play. ‘Noorie’ will be Arijit Aditya – Subrata Roy duo’s third drama after ‘Legacy Code 19.05.1961’ and its sequel ‘Atmahatyaar Por’ (Post Suicide). Both ‘Legacy Code 19.05.1961’ and its sequel ‘Atmahatyaar Por’ fetched a lot of critical appreciation. The music for the play has been designed by Sudipto Chakravorty of famed band Dohar.

Gana-sur, a leading cultural organisation will stage the drama on June 8, 2019, at 6.45 pm at Bango Bhawan in Silchar. Director Subrata Roy will be seen on stage acting. “Apart from Roy, leading actors of Barak Valley, Pradip Das, Rumi Roy, Sharmila Dutta will be seen in other pivotal roles. Veteran actor Ashish Bhowmick and seasoned character artist Bibhas Roy will act in two interesting cameo parts,” informs Arijit Aditya.
