Hailakandi administration relaxes curfew for 3 hours between, 12 to 3 PM

Yesterday, the district administration had announced that it would be extending the deadline of the curfew clamped in the district by 24 hours till Monday morning. The residents of Hailakandi, are in deep distress as they were not prepared for something like this. Many homes are running out of ration, the water supply stays affected as the miscreants vandalised water pipelines. Keeping all this in mind the Hailakandi administration announced that it would relax the curfew for a period of three hours starting from 12:00 noon.

The administration has started organising peace meetings at various police stations located in different parts of Hailakandi. In these meetings the officer-in-charge of the police station talks to the intellectuals in the vicinity and appeals for peace.

As we all are aware that, Friday afternoon, a communal clash took place between two particular communities following which curfew was clamped in the entire district. Police had to fire at the mob to bring the situation under control during which Hailakandi resident Jamir Uddin Tapadar lost his life and several others got injured.

Minister in Assam government, Parimal Suklabaidya himself went to Hailakandi and handed over the body to Tapadar’s family. He assured them a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and also said that a family member will be given a government job. Tapadar’s family received the body following the assurances and the last rites were conducted.

As per the latest available information, the situation is under control in Hailakandi and there are no fresh reports of violence. However, internet stays disconnected in Hailakandi along with neighbouring districts of Cachar and Karimganj.
