February 2016, Milwaukee, (US) headquartered motorcycle manufacturer announced its ‘Legend On Tour’ campaign. In an attempt expand its reach the leisure biking giant had got a bus designed by renowned car designer and founder of DC Design Dilip Chhabria. The bus with a few latest Harley models travelled across the length and breadth of the country.

On Monday March 5, 2018 the bus reached Silchar and was welcomed by huge attendance and plenty of selfies. As per reports, the bus has five Harley models on board and a few original merchandises and accessories. The bus is travelling in various cities of Assam and other North Eastern parts since February 14 and the 17-day tour will end in Silchar.

Harley’s Guwahati outlet executive Pallav Pratim Nath who is travelling with the bus informed us that today they will have an exhibition in Ghunghoor area where fans can go and have an Harley experience. “Fans can also opt for a test drive provided we get necessary permissions from district administration,” Nath further informed.

Talking about permission, the Harley management wanted to organise the exhibition in Town Club Ground Silchar, but did not get the go-ahead from the district administration.

Harley is a cult brand, which has crazy fans all over the world, Nath is expecting a large footfall in the Silchar exhibition as he believes there is a huge fan base in the city. He said, “I think we will get a few booking on the spot tomorrow itself.”

The bus has bikes and accessories and merchandises on board

Harley’s catalogue in India has bikes starting from Rs 6 Lakhs and goes up till Rs 60 lakh, leisure biking in India is growing rapidly with the growth of disposable income. Today the youth of this country has very little liability and hence they do not care much about savings instead they prefer devoting themselves to various luxurious activities. There are several biker’s group today which arranges for long multicity rides.

The 500 CC plus two-wheeler segment has grown more than five fold between 2013 to 2015 and then cooling down started. The growth of other bike manufacturers in the category has posed serious challenges for Harley in India, in Financial Year 2013 Harley Davidson had about 92.3 per cent market share in the premium luxury segment, the number in 2018 has dropped down to 56.4 per cent. India and all across the globe Harley sales units are heading South and the ‘Bus Tour’ is one of the many attempts from the brand to redeem itself.

Well, will Nath’s prediction of getting multiple pre-booking turn true, only time will tell. But what is absolutely certain is that tomorrow Social Media pages of people of Silchar will have multiple Harley moments.
