Former PS of Indian National Congress leader and highly influential Class A contractor sent to a 7 day police remand. The accused was arrested yesterday by Hailakandi Police and today he was produced in in Hailakandi Special Court. The court ordered a seven day police remand as the officials wanted to interrogate Gupta further.

Gupta was arrested by Police in charges of corruption and illegal dealings in a project in Ramnathpur under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojona. ‘Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti’ and ‘Ganatantrik Jubo Mancha’ filed petition last year and on the basis of that police arrested him yesterday.

Gupta’s arrest was the talking point in Assam’s political fraternity, sources informed us that Hailakandi Police is under immense pressure following the arrest of the high profile contractor who has close associations with many political leaders. Source close to the development informed Barakbulletin.com that the top officials of Hailakandi Police has had several meetings throughout the day. Police officials have decided to keep themselves at a distance from media, our correspindent made several attempts to reach out to them but they did not receive our calls and ones did refused to comment on the matter. Ramnathpur Police Staion officer in charge Mukut Hazarika told us that police wanted a 10 day remand but could only get the pre trial detention for 7 days.

Meanwhile petitioner “Krishak mukti sangram samiti’s” secretary Jahir Uddin said, “About Rs 60 crore was sanctioned in order to construct a few roads in North Hailakandi, the entire amount is scammed by Gupta and another contractor from Guwahati and he too should be arrested.”
