If 1951 is made the base year for determination of citizenship then Barak should be excluded, otherwise the valley will separate from Assam - BDF

The state BJP president along with the Chief Minister himself supported the proposal to scrap the NRC and make 1951 as the base year for determination of citizenship. If any such initiative is taken in future, Barak Valley will have to be excluded from the purview of such law. Otherwise Barak Valley will get separated from Assam – threatened Barak Democratic Front.

Speaking in a press conference yesterday, Chief Convener of BDF Pradeep Dutta Roy said that the citizenship problem in the state is mainly the brainchild of ruling party and rabid regionalist leaders of Dispur. The NRC list has shown that there is no basis for this. It has already been proven that some self-interested Assamese nationalist leaders were spreading lies that crores of foreigners have settled in the state. Now, by denying this NRC, controversy is being created again to make 1951 as the base year. And the Citizenship Amendment Bill is being strategically integrated with it. Dutta Roy said that everything is being done for political interest without a shadow of doubt. He said that as per the official language law in the state, separate policies have been applied in case of Barak Valley and Bodoland. Similarly Barak Valley should be excluded from new citizenship laws in future. He said that the BDF believes all those who came to Assam till 2014, irrespective of whether they are Hindu or Muslim, are legal citizens of the country. He commented that if there is an attempt to harm the interests of Barak, then Barak valley will get separated from Assam.

Dutta Roy also said that there is no doubt that BJP is anti-Bengali. He said that the Prime Minister himself had announced in Silchar that all detention camps in the state would be demolished. But after BJP came to power, they were not closed, instead, a huge detention camp was built in Goalpara at a cost of 700 crore rupees. Recently, the camp has also been furtively opened to house 68 so-called declared foreigners. Dutta Roy said that as the Prime Minister could not keep his own words, then he should better come and inaugurate this new detention camp. It should be clear that his party does not consider Bengalis as children of Mother India and therefore they will be happy if this camp is inaugurated, he remarked.

Former BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev recently said that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose is the biggest terrorist. Although it is not clear in what context such comments were made, but through this statement, the BJP leaders have again proved their stupidity and ineptitude. Dutta Roy said that as a Bengali, he is feeling ashamed for all this.

Joydeep Bhattacharjee, Chief Convener of BDF Media Cell said that even though the Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in both the houses of Parliament four years ago, the Central Government has not dared to make its rules till date. This shows how much BJP is concerned about the interests of Bengali Hindus. He told that the Chief Minister has mentioned a package has been prepared by combining 1951 as base year, CAA and delimitation with which Assam BJP will proceed in the future. Bhattacharjee said that it is clear that this is being done to target a particular community and it is all for political gains. He said that people of Barak Valley will never accept such legislation. And if they try to implement these policies in Barak, then the people of this valley will have no option but to separate from Assam. He urged everyone to be vigilant in this matter.

Convener Hrishikesh Dey informed this news in a press release on behalf of BDF Media Cell.
