Indian Army, CRPF, BSF called in for rescue and evacuation in Bilpar, Kanakpur; DC calls for community help

The water level in Cachar district’s residential areas is rising rapidly. River water is flowing into the residential areas of Kanakpur, Berenga, Bilpar, Public School Road through the Bethukandi embankment. Waist-high water on the roads already has resulted in locals resorting to distress and panic.

The families residing in the low-lying areas have called in for help, however, the SDRF resources are already overwhelmed.

Considering the situation, the Cachar District Administration has called in CRPF, Indian Army for help. The officials informed that, along with SDRF, NDRF, the Indian Army and CRPF will also join the rescue and evacuation drive.

The officer from Cachar DC’s office informed, “The rescue operations have started in Kanakpur area. The Indian Army and CRPF troops have joined in the rescue efforts. The situation is grim and the water level is rising thick and fast. We are initiating several rescue operations to help people in distress.”

A large number of population has complained that the distress number shared by the Cachar DDMA is not working and hence, the people in distress are panicking

Cachar DC, Keerthi Jalli has issued a statement urging the people to avoid panic. “I request everyone to start moving towards the highland areas. At the same time, I urge the community leaders of the district, the NGOs, the rich people to step up in help. For humanity, I urge all to join with helping hands irrespective of caste, community and creed. I assure that we have requisitioned all the government schools and colleges and they are available for help of the general public in trouble.”

The DC also added, “Honourable chief minister has called and took a detailed briefing of the situation. Using the airstrip, the state is sending essential items to the Cachar. I reiterate, we have enough relief items in stock to distribute in nook and corners of the district.”
