Internet to be back from tomorrow; curfew in Hailakandi to continue for next 10 days

Deputy commissioner of Hailakandi, Keerthi Jalli attended a press conference today afternoon where she mentioned that the Internet services will be restored in Barak Valley from Tuesday morning. She also stated that the curfew will continue for next ten days but only at night.

Hailakandi is gradually heading back towards normalcy after a communal clash broke down between the two particular communities. The chaos reached a level that the Police officials were forced to fire at the aggressive mob during which Hailakandi resident Jamir Uddin Tapadar lost his life. The entire incident started at the mosque located in Marwadi patty in Hailakandi where a group of miscreants allegedly disrupted the Friday noon prayers.

Jalli, in today’s press conference said that plenty of cases has been filed and the administration will gradually start investigating each one of them. The police is yet to arrest anyone in connection with the entire chaos that took place in Hailakandi which involved vandalisation of several vehicles, stores and many other private and public properties

The deputy commissioner alerted the netizens that after internet restores tomorrow the officials will keep a close eye on the social media activities. She asked social media users to refrain from uploading provocative posts and if found guilty of provocation the user will be punished, she added.

Internet in entire Barak Valley was disconnected at around 10:00 PM on Friday.
