Jun 1: Cases drop in Barak Valley but Cachar continues to report highest number of daily infections in Assam

On Monday, 809 individuals had tested positive for COVID19 in Barak Valley, and on Tuesday, it dropped to 543. However, with 402 fresh cases on Tuesday, Cachar again reports the highest number of cases in the state. The district health department informed that out of 402, 101 samples have tested positive on RT-PCR and 301 on RAT. While the number of RT-PCR tests done is unknown, 301 RAT positive is against 6099 samples tested indicating a 4.93% positivity rate on RAT. Cachar has 3314 active cases and out of them 2,780 are in home isolation.

In Silchar Medical College and Hospital, there is no significant drop in the number of admissions. The hospital that only admits symptomatic patients was presented with 50 fresh admissions on Tuesday while 39 got discharged. The ICU is getting further chocked as 96 patients are there against 100 beds leaving only four vacant. There are 309 patients admitted to the COVID wards of the Hospital and out of them, 173 are on oxygen support and 25 on the ventilator.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that three patients in the COVID wards have died in the last 24 hours ending at 5:00 pm on June 2. Abdul Mannan Sodihol, 55-year-old resident of the Madhurband area was admitted on May 29 and breathed his last on May 31 at 5:10 pm.

Manik Chandra Deb 75-year-old resident of Azad Hind Road Silchar was admitted on May 29 and he succumbed on May 31 at 6:30 pm. Rohit Dhar a 65-year-old resident of Dargakona was admitted on May 30 and he was declared dead on June 1 at 2:40 pm.

In Karimganj district, the number of positive cases has dropped to 69 on June 1 leaving 1,165 active cases. In Hailakandi too the number of cases has dropped to 82 leaving 1486 active cases in the district.
