Jyoti's quiz and debate kickstart in Rajiv Bhawan

Jyoti, a socio-literary cum youth welfare organisation, began its two flagship events, North East Regional Inter-College Invitational Quiz (NERICIQ) and North East Regional Inter-College Invitational Debate (NERICID), at Rajiv Bhawan here on Saturday. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of luminaries who included Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, Simanta Dutta Choudhury, Purnendu Bhattacharjee, Hitesh Goswami and Roma Bhattacharjee.

Simanta Dutta Choudhury, director Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, said, “Quiz and debates are mental exercises which should be conducted on a regular basis. It is good to see that Jyoti is providing the students with a platform through which students can overcome their fear and speak out their minds.” Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, Simanta Dutta Choudhury, Purnendu Bhattacharjee, Hitesh Goswami and Roma Bhattacharjee also spoke on the occasion.

A huge number of participants have registered their names for the 15th and the 13th edition of NERICIQ and NERICID respectively. The two-day gala event began Saturday morning with the lighting of the auspicious lamp. Winners of these competitions will get lumpsum prize money.

The motion of the debate for NERICID final is ‘abrogation of Article 370 is a positive step’ while the motion of the debate for NERICID prelims is ‘media is responsible for the rising intolerance in the country’. The inaugural session was compered by Anupriya Deb and Manjusha Purkayastha.
