Karimganj DC bans sale of liquor for three days; orders licensed premises to remain shut

Deputy commissioner of Karimganj Anbamuthan M.P in an order issued yesterday directed closure of all IMFL and Licensed premises throughout Karimganj district from October 26 to October 28, 2020.

The order issued yesterday read, “In compliance with Govt. W.T. Message No. EX.265/ 97/PT/528 dtd. 16/10/2020, Govt. of Assam S.O.P. No. KLA.301/2020/120 dtd. 12/10/2020 and minutes of the meeting with Puja committees of Karimganj recorded vide Memo No. KM1.1/ 2017/ F/ dated. 19/01/2020, I Mr. Anbamuthan M.P, IAS in the exercise of my powers conferred upon me vide section 52 (1) of Assam Excise Act’2000, hereby declare the closure of all IMFL & C.S. licensed premises throughout Karimganj District from 26th October’2020 to 28th October’2020 for the preservation of public peace.”

It adds, “All IMFL Wholesale/retail “OFF”/”ON”, Country Spirit establishments shall remain closed on the aforesaid days and no sale or consumption of liquor in any ‘ON’/’OFF’ licensed premises shall take place. Any violation of order shall invite provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules.”

It is worth mentioning here that this year, immersion will be spread across several days in order to avoid large gatherings of people. In the SOP issued by the Department of Health, Government of Assam on October 14, it is stated,”Dry Day is to be declared from the day of Dashami till the immersion process gets over.”

Following that, Karimganj DC has declared “dry day” in the district for three days.
