Lord Shiva's idol vandalised in Karimganj; "Don't see a communal angle" SP

Astonishingly, an idol of Lord Shiva found vandaliSed at a temple in Karimganj’s Jahanpur, Longai area. As per available information, the idol was vandalised at night by unidentified miscreants.

According to the locals, when they visited the temple in the morning, they saw the idol in vandalised state. This has irked the locals and they started gathering in front of the temple. Many alleged that it was an intentional attempt to insult the Hindu community. Karimganj police was immediately informed about the incident.

Superintendent of Police, K S Krishna, however, ruled out a communal angle. “We don’t see a communal angle here,” he said. Adding, “We are investigating the matter. Just a couple of days back something happened there and it looks like an issue related to that.”

Confirming the incident, the SP said, “A clay idol was kept there in the temple and that got vandalised. We will soon arrest the culprits.”

Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal members of the locality have launched a demonstration demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
