Low-Intensity Earthquake of 3.8 Magnitude Jolts Barak Valley and Northeast India
A low-intensity earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck the Barak Valley and parts of Northeast India late on Saturday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.
The earthquake, which originated in Dima Hasao district, Assam, was recorded at 23:05 IST on November 23, 2024. Its epicenter was located at a latitude of 25.18°N and longitude of 92.80°E, with a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.
The tremors were felt in the Barak Valley and surrounding areas, but no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property have been received.
This is the latest in a series of seismic events in the seismically active Northeast region, which lies in Zone V, the highest earthquake-prone zone in India.
