Man arrested for vandalism of EVMs in Udharbond escapes from Judicial Magistrate’s court

Cachar Police is taking strict actions against those involved in vandalism at Udharbond. It is worth mentioning here that on April 1, after polling a ruckus was created at Udharbond Mahasadak near NATRiP which is the strong room where EVMs are kept.

According to the deputy commissioner of Cachar, unpolled/reserved or faulty EVM were being transported to the strong room as per protocol when the locals stopped the vehicle and started vandalism. A sector officer’s private car with one reserved EVM in it was also vandalised. The DC added that the car was toppled and the sector officer was manhandled by an “unruly-drunk” mob.

Since then, the police detained many present there and arrested few of them too. Udharbond’s Borshinga resident, Enam Uddin Laskar was also arrested in this context. A case was registered (96/21) against him and today two police constables escorted him to the judicial magistrate’s court in Silchar.

As they reached the CJM’s court, Enam Uddin Laskar managed slip away from the constables and climbed the wall to escape. The Police constables chased him but could get hold of Laskar.
