Massive road accident on Karimganj-Silchar road; 3 dead, 35 injured
Two Force Traveller busses packed with passengers had left from Karimganj this morning. One was heading towards Silchar while the other one was driving to Hailakandi. According to a passenger, when the vehicles were crossing Bhanga Bazaar the two drivers started competing with each other. Both overtook each other a couple of times and at about 500 metres distance from Bhanga Bazaar, one of the two busses lost its control and collided with the other one at the rear end.
After the collision both the buses lost control and rolled down to a roadside pond. The fatal accident got captured by the CCTV cameras installed in nearby buildings. Locals immediately dived into the pond and started rescuing stranded passengers. As per eyewitnesses, as many three are feared to be dead while more than 35 were injured. All of them have been rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital and sources close to the development say that the death toll could further rise.

A local resident present there said that as the depth of the pond was only till chest height the locals could get down immediately. “However, we found a school bag, kids chappals but any school goer is yet to be rescued. We fear a kid is still stranded somewhere in the pond,” said local resident who volunteered in the rescue operation.
As per latest reports, the three deceased are identified as Sitangshu Sharma of Sarpur, Aloy Bhushan Dhar and Harish Chandra Dutta Choudhury of Karimganj.
