Meghalaya to shut all entry points from July 24-31; Could disrupt Barak - Bramhaputra communications

All entry points of Meghalaya will be closed for a week’s period between July 24 and 31, as announced by the state government on Wednesday. The move is aimed at reducing the transmission of COVID-19, with the number of cases recently rising in the Northeastern state.

“To unburden our health, frontline workers & District Administration engaged in intensive surveillance for the past 4 months, Govt. has decided to close all entry points of the State (Byrnihat, Ratacherra, Bajengdoba, Tikrikilla, Mirjumla & Hallidayganj) from 24th-31st July, 2020” Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, while speaking to reporters later, said the restrictions would be strictly enforced.

In addition to it, the government also decided not to allow parties/organizers to conduct wedding receptions in East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi, due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

However, the solemnization of marriages in places of worship would be allowed with strict protocols.
