NF Railways seizes 8KG Ganja from Badarpur Railway station; arrests tout for blacking tickets

RPF/NFR has been successful in apprehending touts who are involved in the illegal selling of railway tickets during search and raids conducted in several stations within the jurisdiction of NFR.

In a media statement, the NFR shared that in one such incident on 31-08-2020 inspector/RPF/CIB/Guwahati along with other officials and staff of CIB/ Guwahati and RPF/post/ Guwahati with the help of local police conducted search in one shop namely M/s. P.M. Communication and Service located at Odalbakra, Guwahati. The shop, NFR’s statement said was running illegal business of selling Railway e-tickets.

“In course of the search, RPF recovered 21 nos of Railway e-tickets generated using user ID for different persons on different dates and different trains. Total value of the recovered E-Tickets is Rs. 33,718,” informed NFR.

On being asked, the owner of the shop namely Mrinal Hazra failed to produce any IRCTC authorization certificate and confessed generating the recovered railway e-tickets illegally for his benefit. “As such, the recovered Railway e-tickets along with other relevant items have been seized and the owner of the shop has been taken into custody. In this connection, Sub Inspector/D. Kalita of RPF / CIB/ Guwahati lodged a complaint and Inspector/RPF/ Guwahati registered a case vide No. 203/2020 U/S 143 Rlys Act, Dated 31-08-2020,” informed CPRO, NF Railways, Subhanan Chanda.

Another such case on 30.08.2020, based on information and analysis of user id ‘vicky0160’, a joint team of Inspector/RPF/ Dibrugarh, Inspector/RPF/ CIB/Tinsukia and RPF / Task Force Tinsukia conducted a surprise check in the presence of local police at one shop namely M/s. Patel and Sons at Dibrugarh and apprehended a person named Vicky Patel, S/O Late Pramod Patel, Dibrugarh for illegal procuring and selling of railway E-tickets by using personal user IDs.

“On analysis of email records and storage (11 email IDs were used by the accused) a total number of 48 railway E-tickets of value Rs.1, 09,132. In this regard 1 computer and printer with accessories, 02 mobile Phones, 01 cheque book of Kotak Mahindra bank, 01 Aadhaar card, 01 pan card etc was seized. A case was registeted at RPF/Post/ Dibrugarh vide Case No.02/2020 u/s 143 Railway Act,” informed Chanda.

Further yesterday, while train escort party consisting of Head Const. H. Nigtom, Const. S. Roy and Const. K Sinha while performing duty by train no. 02501 Agartala – New Delhi AC special, detected one handbag under berth no.12 of coach no B/4 as unclaimed and suspected to be containing ganja.

“On arrival of the train at Badarpur at 09.50 pm, the escort party unloaded the bag in presence of other on-duty staff and brought the same to the parcel office for weight. After opening the bag, two packages, suspected to be containing about 8 kg ganja and clothes were found. The value of seized contraband is approx. Rs 80,000,” added Chanda.

He shared, from the year 2017 to 2020 (up to July), total 654 cases of smuggling of contraband goods were detected by RPF with recovery of items worth Rs. 17,93,72,180/- and arrest of 185 persons.
