NIT Silchar ranks globally by US News Rankings for the first time

In registering one more success in its list, National Institute of Technology Silchar, for the first time, has made into US News Rankings securing a rank of 750 globally, NIT director Prof Sivaji Bandhopadhyay said on Friday.

“I am delighted to share that NIT Silchar has been globally ranked 750 in Engineering for the first time by US News Rankings. US News Rankings is the mostly widely quoted rankings in the United States of America (USA) and is highly respected by the top American Industry leaders and universities in the USA,” NIT director said adding it is a primary reference point for American students during University admissions.

25 Indian Institutes has figured in the Global Engineering rankings that include IISc, 11 IITs (including IIT Guwahati) and 6 NITs (NIT Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal, Rourkela , Silchar and Durgapur).

Expressing his happiness, director stated that the feature will have a big impact on the reputation of the institute as they have not applied for the ranking rather selected on the basis of strong “research output and collaborations”. “This global visibility is a big achievement for us as we did not separately apply for the rankings and US News Rankings considered our strong research output and collaborations” he mentioned.

About the future expedition of NIT Silchar, director said, “This is just the beginning of a new and exciting journey for NIT Silchar by attaining global visibility as the first step after overcoming several challenges. There is no scope for complacency as a lot more has to be achieved.”

U.S. News & World Report Best Global University rankings were produced to provide insight into how universities compare globally. Since an increasing number of students plan to enroll in universities outside of their own country, the Best Global Universities rankings – which focus specifically on schools’ academic research and reputation overall and not on their separate undergraduate or graduate programs – can help those applicants accurately compare institutions around the world.

“Our goal is to move upwards from here and strengthen our core pillars in research and academics which are essential for stable R&D involvement with the topmost global universities and multi-national companies that can enrich the region, change the mass perception and make India self-sufficient in technology” the Prof mentioned.

Earlier, NIT Silchar was globally ranked by the Times Higher Education World University rankings with a global rank in the band of 801-1000. US News Rankings is the second global ranking, achieved by the institute.
