Popular radio broadcaster, Silchar's Rathindra Chakraborty is no more

People of Silchar are having a hard time mourning the tragic demise of their loved ones. Adding to that tally, casual announcer of All India Radio cum field assistant of Agriculture Department Rathindra Chakraborty left for heavenly abode on Friday after suffering from post covid complications. Although Chakraborty was infected with SARS-CoV-2, he was in home isolation and tested negative after clearing the virus. But fate had other plans as he started having breathing difficulties a few days later. He was admitted to Green Hills Hospital on May 19 as his breathing difficulty became severe. At 9:07 pm on Friday, Rathindra Chakraborty lost his battle after suffering from a spell of atypical pneumonia and septicemia effectuated by covid. He was 58 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife Rima and his two young sons Sourav and Soumya alongwith many loved ones.

Rathindra Chakraborty’s voice is very familiar to those who listen to AIR Silchar, especially the Agriculture Department programs. Chakraborty was quite popular due to his eloquent speaking style and humility. He was involved with All India Radio since 1988. In addition to working as a casual announcer, he also conducted the famous ‘Chasabader Kotha’ program and was very popular among his colleagues at All India Radio Silchar. His death has cast a spell of gloom among the radio fraternity in Silchar. His colleagues aren’t able to come to terms with his sudden untimely demise.

After his admission at Green Hills Hospital he was kept at the ICU as the complications were severe. His condition also improved a bit later and he was transferred to the general cabin eventually. But suddenly his health started deteriorating on Friday morning and he went into the state of coma. He was shifted to the ICU again but could not be saved.

His funeral rites were performed at Silchar Crematorium in the dawn.
