Residents of Greater Madhurbond Submit Memorandum to Sadar Police, Demands Action Against Notorious Tajel Khan*
Frustrated residents of the Greater Madhurbond area near Silchar have submitted a memorandum to the Silchar Sadar Police Station, seeking immediate action against a youth named Tajel Khan, whom they accuse of persistent harassment and illegal activities.
In their memorandum, submitted on Thursday, the locals described Tajel Khan, a resident of Water Works Road, as a notorious individual involved in theft, robbery, and other criminal activities. They also alleged that he has been instigating communal tensions in the Kalibari Char area and frequently misbehaves with women and young girls when they visit the river for bathing.
According to the residents, Tajel Khan often threatens those who confront him and has attacked several people with sharp weapons, such as machetes and spades. “Today, we have all gathered from the area to submit a memorandum to the Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station. Earlier, he used to harass just the locals, but now even the hawkers and vendors are victims of his unruly behaviour,” said a concerned resident. “Men, women, and even children are living in constant fear of his threats. We have tried to reason with him, but he refuses to listen. If we ask him to stop his activities, he comes out with his machete to attack us”, further added the locals.
The residents further claimed that despite filing two previous cases against him and holding community meetings, no concrete action has been taken by the authorities so far. Exasperated by the lack of response, they have now appealed to the administration to take stringent measures against Tajel Khan.
They warned that if the police fail to act, they will be forced to launch a larger movement to ensure the safety and security of their community.
