Scam in Cachar DC's office; Money demanded against permission to sell land, naam jari; complaint lodged

Link Road resident, Raja Roy has reached out to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar appealing her to investigate proceedings at Settlement Office which is a part of her administration. According to him, in 2018 he had applied for permission to sell his land. Patowary (Recorder) of Settlement Office, Silchar, Shyamal Dhar allegedly asked him for a bribe and now Roy has moved to the deputy commissioner’s office with pieces of evidence demanding action.

Raja Roy said that recorder/patowary Shyamal Dhar asked him to pay Rs 6,000 for Naam Jari (Land Mutation) and Rs 35,000 for sale permission. “I refused to pay him the bribe of Rs 35,000 and that is why he made me run post to pillar for two years. He kept making various excuses and then came up with a theory that there is an objection against the sale of land. However, despite asking time and again he did not share any details about the nature of the objection,” informed Raja Roy.

He added, “I did not pay him the Rs 35,000 he had asked for sale permission but I procured it through some other way, getting in touch with another person. However, for the land mutation (Naam Jari) he took Rs 6,000 from me and I have all the pieces of evidence that I can share with the deputy commissioner madam on demand.”

He shared his sole aim is to ensure there is an investigation against recorder Shyamal Dhar. “He must be asked why he took Rs 6,000 from me and where is the money receipt that he had promised me. This government is clean, but officials like Shyamal Dhar are stains that need to be cleaned. I hope the deputy commissioner will,” said Raja Roy.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli or her office is yet to make a statement on the issue.
